BACK TO BASICS Horse Care COURSES
Back to Basics Ridden and Care Course - 6 weeks
Looking to return to riding and refresh your horse care skills?
Our six week course covers one hour of riding and one hour of horse care tutoring/practice each week.
Week 1 – Headcollars, quick release knots, grooming & leading
Week 2 – Grooming & Bridle tacking up
Week 3 – Grooming & Saddle tacking up
Week 4 – Catching in from the field and groom/tack up
Week 5 – Groom/tack up & introduction to rugs
Week 6 – Groom/tack up & rugs/turning out
This course will also incoporate the BHS Progressive Tests awards for those riders interested in achieving these.
The course will run for six consecutive Wednesday mornings

A 50% non-refundable deposit of £126.00 is required to book your space. The remaining payment will be due on the day of the week 3 session.
Any new clients/clients who have not ridden with us in the last two years must attend a private assessment lesson prior to the course start date.
Please note our current weight limit is 12stone (76kg).
All participants must bring their own gloves. Hats/boots can be hired for use for the course at £3 a session– please speak to the office when you book. If you are bringing your own hat it must conform to the current BHS centre guidelines.Once booked this course is non-transferable,/refundable.

Non-ridden Care Course
Our four-week course is designed to give you practical time with our horses and covers grooming, tacking and untacking, basic saddlery and signs of health/general behaviour. Its ideal for riders returning to riding who want to refresh their horse care skills or clients who would like to compliment their lessons with a chance to learn some basic stable management skills.
Week 1 – General signs of health and behaviours
Week 2 – Saddles and tacking up practice
Week 3 – Rugs and turning out horses
Week 4 – Bridles and tacking up practice
There is the opportunity to further develop your skills by taking the BHS Essential Horse Knowledge certificates.
We would suggest this course is ideal for 15 years old and upwards. For younger riders, our Pony Club sessions cover these and many more topics (please see a member of staff for more details).

BHS Stage 1 training
We offer BHS Stage 1 Care courses to improve your knowledge and skills in equine care and management or for a refresher whilst working towards your Care exam. We can also deliver the BHS Progressive Ridden and Stable Management certificates.

BHS Stage 1 – Care
Practical training Course
Ideal for riders working towards their Stage 1 Care exam or for people looking to further develop their knowledge and experience in handling and caring for horses.
Our course runs for four Sundays and covers the Stage 1 Care syllabus with tutor Jackie Colbert.
Ideally aimed at ages 14 years and upwards

BHS CHALLENGE AWARDS
We offer the BHS Challenge Awards. You can work you way through the awards in your private lessons but we will also be offering courses for various levels of the awards. Particpants will need to join the BHS to join in the various challenges but there is a vast array with something to suit everyone so it is well worth it.
